Step 3 in Defining Your Core Values

Core Values

Hello again, and welcome to week three of our six week blog series Defining Core Values”. Last week we talked about synthesizing the beliefs, behaviors, or traits that you listed in step one into ten core groups.

This week, it’s all about putting a name to those groups. Think about how to articulate the sentiment behind each group of words in a way that inspires your team. Some examples include:

Willing to Sweep Floors

We All Kill Our Own Spiders

These phrases can act as symbolic references to tasks your team does every day, making the core values attainable, tangible, and more likely to be adopted. If you are having trouble coming up with interesting taglines or expressions, bring more members of your herd into the conversation — ask them their point of view. Creating a sense of inclusion can accelerate the adoption process because your team will feel a sense of ownership in the process.

Check in next week for Step 4 of Defining Core Values.
